Plagiarism Policy
Nata Palemahan: Journal of Environmental Engineering Innovations Editorial Board recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and has therefore established the following policy, which outlines specific actions (penalties) upon identification of plagiarism or similarities in articles submitted for publication in Nata Palemahan: Journal of Environmental Engineering Innovations. The journal will use Turnitin’s originality checking software as a tool to detect textual similarities in article manuscripts and the final version of articles ready for publication. A maximum similarity index of 20% is allowed for submitted papers. If the similarity index exceeds 20%, the article will be returned to the author for correction and re-submission.
Definition:
Plagiarism is defined as the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."
Policy:
Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source must be clearly identified as different from the original text by:
-
Indentation,
-
Use of quotation marks,
-
Identification of the source.
Any text exceeding fair use standards (defined here as more than two or three sentences, or the equivalent) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s), as well as identification of the source (e.g., previous publication).
When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief responsible for reviewing the paper will determine appropriate measures based on the extent of plagiarism detected, following the guidelines below:
Level of Plagiarism
Minor Plagiarism
A small sentence or short paragraph is plagiarized without significant data or ideas being taken from the other paper.
Punishment: A warning is issued to the author(s), with a request to modify the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.
Intermediate Plagiarism
A significant portion of data, a paragraph, or sentence is plagiarized without proper citation of the original source.
Punishment: The submitted article is automatically rejected.
Severe Plagiarism
A large portion of the article is plagiarized, involving many aspects such as reproducing original results (data, formulation, equation, law, statement, etc.), ideas, or methods presented in other publications.
Punishment: The paper is automatically rejected.
