Author Guidelines
Online Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) portal of Holistica Pharmatica Scientia. We do not accept submissions via email. To submit your manuscript, please adhere to the following OJS 3 workflow:
Manuscript Categories
1. Original Articles
Original quantitative or qualitative research manuscripts are published as original articles. The main text should not exceed 3,000 words, excluding the abstract, tables, figures, and references. Authors must provide a structured abstract of 150 to 250 words and include no more than 5 tables and figures in total. Additionally, the manuscript must adhere to the standard journal structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.
2. Systematic Review / Meta-analysis / Scoping Review
A systematic review offers a detailed search and evaluation of available evidence on a significant pharmacy topic, utilizing a structured methodology to answer specific research questions. This type of review can either include or exclude a meta-analysis, but it strictly mandates a structured abstract. The main body of the text is capped at 5,000 words (excluding the abstract, tables, figures, and references), with a maximum combined limit of 6 tables and figures. Additionally, scoping reviews and rapid reviews are accepted under this category, provided they adhere to their respective PRISMA guidelines.
3. Narrative or Other Non-Systematic Review
Narrative reviews are aimed at identifying and summarizing what has previously been published. Narrative reviews have no predetermined research question or specified search strategy, only a topic of interest. They are not systematic and follow no specified protocol. A structured abstract is required. The text should not exceed 5000 words in length (not including abstract, tables, figures, and references) and no more than a total of 6 tables and figures.
4. Case Reports
Case reports are limited to 2000 words in the main text, a structured abstract, a maximum of 2 tables and figures, and up to 15 references.
The summary of manuscript categories can be seen in Table 1 below:
| Type of articles | Abstract (word) | Main body (word) | Tables and Figures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original article | 150-250 | 3000 | 5 |
| Review (systematic review, meta-analysis, scoping review) / Non-systematic review | 150-250 | 5000 | 6 |
| Case-reports | 150-200 | 2000 | 2 |
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts submitted to Holistica Pharmatica Scientia may be written in either proper and clear English or Indonesian. Regardless of the primary language used in the main text, all submissions must include a bilingual title, abstract, and keywords (both in English and Indonesian) to maintain international indexing standards and ensure global visibility. Manuscripts should be written in the following sequence: title page, abstract, keywords, manuscript body, acknowledgements, references, tables, and figures.
Title page
The title page should include the following: (a) English and Indonesian titles, (b) full authors names and affiliations, (c) description of funding sources; statement to declare if there is no funding, and (d) the name and email address of the corresponding author. Title running of no more than 20 words. Word counts for the abstract and main body should be provided. Numbers of tables and figures should also be noted on the title page.
Abstract
Abstracts should appear on a separate page and be 150-250 words in length. For manuscripts written in Indonesian, authors are strictly required to provide two versions of the abstract: one in Indonesian and one in proper English. The abstract must be structured with explicit headings for: introduction, objective, methods, results, and conclusions. References should not be included in abstracts and abbreviations should be used sparingly.
Keywords
Authors are required to include 3 to 5 keywords directly underneath the abstract (provided in both English and Indonesian). These terms should ideally be derived from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) found in the Index Medicus by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. However, appropriate contemporary terminology may be used if specific MeSH terms are not yet established.
Manuscript Text
The main text of the manuscript must adhere to the specific guidelines of its respective paper category. Upon first mention, abbreviations must be fully spelled out, followed by the acronym in parentheses. References across text, tables, and legends should be designated using superscript Arabic numerals enclosed in brackets, such as [1],[2]. In-text citations should feature authors' surnames; use "and" to link two authors, and list the first author followed by "et al." for works with three or more authors. Furthermore, all measurement data must utilize Arabic numerals, displaying percentages with the "%" symbol and statistical probability with a lowercase p. Lengths must follow the metric system, while blood pressure, hemoglobin, and temperature are to be reported in mmHg, g/dL, and degrees Celsius, respectively. Any other measurements must conform to the International System of Units (SI Units), ensuring a space separates the numerical value from its corresponding unit.
Conflict of Interest
It should be disclosed here according to the statement in the Research and Publication Ethics regardless of the existence of conflict of interest. If the authors have nothing to disclose, please state: “The authors have no conflict of interest associated with the material presented in this paper.”
Funding
All financial support for this study must be clearly disclosed here.
Acknowledgements
Where applicable, acknowledge any contributors who do not meet authorship criteria here.
References
Authors must ensure that all manuscript references are accurate, complete, and written in English. Citations must follow the Vancouver style, numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text. Please avoid citing abstracts, unpublished observations, or personal communications. For online articles that lack assigned volume or page numbers, a DOI must be provided. Refer to the examples below for formatting guidance:
- Article within a journal: For six or fewer authors, list the surnames and initials of all authors; for seven or more list the first six authors and add et al., title of article, name of journal abbreviated according to Index Medicus style, year, volume, issue, first and last page numbers and DOI.

Table and Figures
Authors are encouraged to use supplementary tables, figures, and photographs, provided they do not replicate data already detailed in the text. These elements should be placed at the end of the manuscript, numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals in their order of appearance, and their approximate placement noted within the main text. Titles and internal content must be self-explanatory, using sentence-case capitalization (only the first word capitalized). Tables must be formatted without internal vertical or horizontal lines. All explanations and abbreviations should be placed in the footnotes using superscript numbers (1,2,3….). Statistical significance can be indicated in the footnotes using standard symbols (e.g., *p<0.05, **p<0.01, ***p<0.001).
